Police are seeking witnesses and video after a driver went on a wild weekend ride from Surrey to Abbotsford that ended with an arrest rather than a potentially catastrophic crash.

Surrey RCMP got calls about an erratic driver of a red 2016 Chevrolet Cruze at about 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

The Chevy drove east on 100th Avenue in the area of 148th Street as several people “reported the vehicle travelling at high speeds, swerving all over the road, and running multiple red lights,” said Abbotsford police Const. Artur Stele in a news release Tuesday.

“Reports continued to come in to the Surrey RCMP advising that the vehicle was proceeding north along 160th Street towards Highway 1,” said Stele.

When the Chevy reached the Trans-Canada Highway, it was reportedly heading east in the westbound lanes. Police were unable to spot the car.

More than 90 minutes after the initial reports, Abbotsford police got 911 calls about the same Chevy driving east in the westbound lanes in the 33500-block of Marshall Road.

Officers were finally able to spot the car and arrest the driver.

Stele said Abbotsford police are asking anyone who was travelling Sunday afternoon in the Surrey area, along Highway 1 or on Marshall Road in Abbotsford around that time and who witnesses the alleged dangerous driving or has dashcam footage to give call local police.
