After the late-winter snowstorm this week created restrictions around town, it’s great to be able to get back to events around the city. There’s plenty of entertainment and education for all ages this weekend.
1 — Share a laugh with local comedians

Art Bar Theatre presents Red, White and You!, a high-energy sketch and standup comedy show. Enjoy performances from Saskatchewan comedians Dakota Ray Hebert, Danny Knight, Dylan Jay Williamson and Ryan Moccasin. The show is Friday at the Refinery at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Learn more at ontheboards.ca.

2 — Hear about internment in Canada
The Ukrainian Museum of Canada presents Film & Conversation on That Never Happened: Canada’s First National Internment Operations. The film by Ryan Boyko explores the history of Canada’s internment operations that saw more than 8,500 people wrongfully imprisoned between 1914 and 1920, based solely on where they came from. Museum staff will facilitate a discussion after the film. The presentation is at the museum Friday at 7 p.m. Learn more at umcnational.ca.
3 — Learn from residential school survivors
Remai Modern presents Saskatoon Residential School Survivors Circle (SRSSC) and Tipi Painting Experience with Jerry Whitehead. The artist and residential school survivor is painting the SRSSC’s new logo on a tipi, which he will present to the group. The group will provide support and answer questions about their lived experiences as residential school survivors. The public event is at the Cameco Learning Studio Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The project is supported by SIGA. Learn more at remaimodern.org.
4 — Celebrate a fusion of jazz and Ukrainian poetry

The Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra presents A Kolomyika Fantasy. Ukrainian poetry meets jazz in a symphony of heritage, with an homage to renowned poet Taras Shevchenko and traditional Ukrainian songs. Ukrainian-speaking Canadian vocalists Slavko Nohas and Kateryna Khartova, saxophonist Jerrold Dubyk and Saskatoon pianist Sofia Mycyk join the SJO. The concert is Saturday at the Broadway Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Before the concert, Mycyk hosts a free talk about Ukrainian music at 4 p.m. The program raises awareness of the ongoing war in Ukraine and supports the UMC. 5 — Embrace childhood memories through song
The Saskatoon Chamber Singers presents Rhyme Time: Recalling Ones Childhood Days. Music composition meets nursery rhymes and poetry for an evening of family-friendly fun. Concertgoers are encouraged to embrace their inner child and bring their own young children to hear the familiar rhymes.
