1 — Experience and purchase local art
The Artists’ Workshop annual show and sale features new work from the 10 members, celebrating the creative synergy in artmaking. A unique piece for this year’s theme is a collection of paintings, one by each artist, showcasing Saskatoon. Other artwork features oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings, mixed media and watercolour batiks. The show and sale runs Friday to Sunday at Grace-Westminster United Church. 2 — Join a documentary discussion
In partnership with the 30 Bird Foundation, Remai Modern presents a free community screening of the 2019 documentary The Secret Marathon. Inspired by a story of courage, a filmmaker and her marathon mentor secretly trained to run the Marathon of Afghanistan, joining Afghan women who stood up for equality and freedom. A community panel discussion follows the screening. The event is Friday in the SaskTel Theatre at 7 p.m. Learn more at remaimodern.org.
3 — Support the food bank and hear classic country music
The Grand Ole Opry Show is a fundraiser supporting the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre. A lively show of classic country music, it features tributes to Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. The show is at the Western Development Museum Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are at Sobeys on Eighth Street, Captain’s Den in Market Mall or at the door. 4 — Catch a local theatre production
Mini Fridge Theatre presents Barefoot in the Park, a romantic comedy by Neil Simon. After a six-day honeymoon, newlyweds Paul and Corie Bratter get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother. During a dinner with their neighbour, the couple decides to play matchmaker, but everything that can go wrong inevitably does. The play runs through Saturday at St. Paul’s Cathedral. 5 — Celebrate dance
International Dance Week wraps up this weekend with three days of events hosted by Free Flow Dance Theatre. Cross-cultural collaborations between different dance artists include Viktoria Grynenko and Janita Frantsi; Newton Moraes and Derek Souvannavong; and Olga Barrios, Norma Araiza and Edgardo Moreno. Performances run through Sunday at the Avenue Room and are also available on live stream. Admission is by donation, with free low-income tickets available online. Learn more at freeflowdance.com.
