It started Thursday night with a little skiff of snow and the white stuff is expected to continue to fall throughout Friday, over the weekend and into Monday.

Hopefully it doesn’t cause too many issues on the roads, if you’re travelling anywhere over the weekend.

As for Friday’s forecast, expect a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of flurries, a high of -13 C, and a wind chill of -21. On Saturday, the snow is expected to arrive in the morning, and continue throughout the day with a high of -14 C.

Temperatures this time of year, along with high wind chills, increase the risk of frostbite. If you’re out on the roads, it’s always a good plan to bring a stash of warm clothes, some gloves and boots, just in case you break down and have to wait for help.

Parking ban in effect

The City of Edmonton implemented a Phase 1 parking ban on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. for vehicles parked along major roadways, including arterial roads, collector roads and bus routes. However, people can still park on residential streets.

Parking is allowed on roads as soon as they have been cleared, so long as parking is allowed there normally. Residents should refer to the roadways snow clearing map for current clearing status of roadways.

Vehicles parked on banned roadways may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. If a vehicle has been towed, the owner should contact 311 for details.
