Edmonton police say charges have been laid in connection to the death of a 15-year-old boy on Tuesday.

EPS says around 9:30 p.m. on May 21, officers responded to a report of an injured teen near 137 Avenue and 184 Street.

Paramedics tried to save the injured 15-year-old, but he died at the scene from his injuries.

It is believed at the time of the incident, the teen had been walking his dog when he was attacked.

His mother witnessed his death, and while not ready to speak on camera, told CityNews he was brave. She identified her son as Broden Radomske saying in a statement she is completely devastated, saying Broden was her first child and her best friend.

“I am completely devastated losing Broden. He was my first child and he was also my best friend.”

St. Albert Public Schools putting out a statement confirming Broden was a Grade 9 student at Lorne Akins School.

Lowered flags in his honour, saying counsellors are at the school providing support to those who need it, saying “All children grieve in different ways and some may take some time before they’re ready to talk to someone about this. Our staff is trained to watch for signs that children might need some extra support.”

Broden’s mom says she’s worried about his friends, classmates, and teammates. For many, this will be their first loss saying “I want kids to be kind and take care of one another. Please watch out for your friends and seek help if you think they are struggling.”

Police took a man into custody who was known to the boy prior to the incident.

Police have since charged 40-year-old Keith James Landry with second-degree murder.

EPS say they are not releasing the name of the 15-year-old who was killed.
