Edmonton police are asking for the public’s help in their investigations of two separate hit-and-run collisions on Jasper Avenue that sent two men to hospital within 12 hours of each other,

The first crash happened at roughly 11 p.m. Friday. Police said in a release that a dark blue Acura TL sedan was travelling westbound when it struck a 30-year-old man walking across Jasper Avenue near 109 Street. Police said the driver of the vehicle didn’t stop after hitting the man.

An ambulance crew responded to the injured man and treated him at the scene before transporting him to hospital. Police said the victim remains in hospital with “serious, life-threatening” injuries.

Police found the vehicle near 118 Street and Kingsway Avenue using a dog unit, after which the driver and one passenger were briefly taken into custody. They have since been released, though charges are pending against the 25-year-old male driver, police said.

The second hit and run occurred about nine blocks west at around 11:35 a.m. Saturday, police said in a separate news release.

A suspect reportedly carjacked a white Jeep Cherokee from a man in a restaurant parking lot at Jasper Avenue and 118 Street, police said.

The man was dragged by and then run over by the Jeep before the alleged carjacker turned into an alley and left the scene eastbound on Jasper Avenue.

The 26-year-old male victim was taken to hospital where he remains with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said in the release that they believe the altercation was isolated and that the victim and suspect may know each other. The release did not say whether the suspect is male or female.

The Major Collision Investigations Section is investigating both hit and runs, and are seeking the public’s help, including any dashcam or video footage.
