Edmonton’s city manager is leaving, but it wasn’t immediately made clear why.

Andre Corbould’s last day as city manger will be April 3, the City of Edmonton said in a news release late Friday.

“Council appreciates Mr. Corbould’s work and dedication to Edmonton,” Mayor Amarjeet Sohi said in the release. “He has led the City of Edmonton through a very long and difficult pandemic, supported the transition of this council, helped advance council’s work on anti-racism and reconciliation, helped support thousands of evacuees and provided exceptional leadership during the recent security incident at City Hall.”

Deputy city manager Eddie Robar will become the acting city manager. An interim city manager will be formally appointed at the next city council meeting on April 3. A formal recruitment will then follow, the city says.

Corbould was Edmonton’s city manager for a little more than three years, filling the role in January 2021. He was previously with the provincial government and Canadian Armed Forces.

“This marks my 40th year in public service and I am proud of the progress Council and City Administration have made in implementing The City Plan, recovering from the pandemic and managing community growth,” Corbould said in the same news release.

“I have every confidence that the Executive Leadership Team and 11,000 staff right across the organization are well positioned to carry the City forward even further.”

It remains to be seen why Corbould is leaving the role.

The city specified “no additional comment will be made” because it deals with a “staffing matter.”
