Diving Canada showed its deep talent pool.

Six different events were contested at the Canadian Olympic Diving Trials and Summer Senior National Championships.

Competition wrapped on Sunday at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre with six different winners. 

Already headed to the Paris Olympic Games in men’s 10-metre synchro platform, Nathan Zsombor-Murray made his case to compete individually by winning the men’s individual 10-metre platform event on Sunday with a score of 776.95.

Caeli McKay came from fourth in qualifying to win the women’s 10-metre platform with a score of 501.05 and met Diving Canada’s Olympic qualification standard.

Mia Vallee won the women’s one-metre springboard with a total of 386.4 while 16-year-old Maisy Woloszyn, from the Windsor Diving Club, moved up from sixth in qualifying to finish fifth overall in the event with a score of 330.2

Cedric Fofana, who was third in qualifying, rallied to capture the men’s one-metre springboard event with a total of 566.2

Margo Erlam took the women’s three-metre springboard event with a total of 512.85 while Victor Povzner won the men’s three-metre springboard event with a total of 626.1.

Ravens open strong

The Essex Ravens under-18 varsity team opened the Ontario Summer Football League schedule with a solid 31-0 road win over the Oshawa Hawkeyes on Saturday.

Running backs Connor Thompson and Mattia Roma each had touchdown runs while Liam Havinga pulled in a touchdown pass from quarterback Lex McGarity. Kicker James Carlini converted all three scores, added three field goals and a single.

The Ravens’ under-16 team beat Oshawa 24-10 while the under-14 team claimed a 14-7 win over the Hawkeyes.

Clippers get split

The Windsor Clippers split a pair of Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B games.

The Clippers fell 16-2 on the road Sunday to the Guelph Regals after beating the Welland Generals 10-4 at home on Saturday.

Mason Myers-Whiteye had both goals for the Clippers (3-5-0) against the Regals (6-4-0).

Myers-Whiteye, Jacob Cianci, Quinn Brennan and Vance Dalpe each had two goals against the Generals (1-8-0). Kane Murphy and Carter Kaul added single goals.

Gervais named MVP

Windsor’s Julien Gervais was named Most Valuable Player at the Centennial Cup in Oakville.

The 20-year-old Gervais tied for the scoring lead for the tournament that determines the national junior A hockey champion.

The six-foot-two, 170-pound forward finished the tournament with 12 points in six games as he helped the Calgary Canucks reach the semifinals of the event. Gervais led all players with nine assists in the tournament, which was won by the Collingwood Blues.

The St. Clair Saints women’s basketball team is adding a pair of local players for the 2024-25 OCAA season.

St. Joseph high school guard Peri Colthurst will join the college along with Holy Names high school forward Fiona Lukassen.

An honour roll student, the five-foot-nine Colthurst was a WECSSAA Tier I second-team all-star. She also helped the Tecumseh Saints to an Ontario Basketball Association Division III gold medal in 2022.

The five-foot-10 Lukassen helped the Knights win back-to-back WECSSAA titles and an OFSAA silver medal in 2022. Another honour roll student, Lukassen helped the Windsor/St. Clair JUEL team to a bronze medal in 2023. She has also spent time with the Windsor Valiants and the Tecumseh Saints.

Saints baseball recruit

The St. Clair Saints are adding Kitchener’s Jordan Miller for the 2024 OCAA season.

Miller primarily plays shortstop, but could also see time in the outfield.

The five-foot-11 Miller is a two-time Premier Baseball League of Ontario all-star with the Ontario Bearcats.
