Jack Wismer scored the game-winner in the third period as the UBC Thunderbirds defeated the Calgary Dinos 2-1 on Saturday night to force a deciding Game 3 in their Canada West men’s hockey final.
Colson Gengenbach gave the Dinos a first-period lead in Vancouver before Chris Douglas potted the equalizer in the middle frame.

Carl Tetachuk made 39 saves for Calgary, while Cole Schwebius turned aside 20 shots for UBC.

The Dinos now look to win their second straight and 10th overall Hardy Trophy in Sunday’s decider. Puck-drop is 8 p.m. MT.
“You go to Game 3 to win a championship — everybody is going to take that opportunity,” said Dinos head coach Mark Howell. “We will grow from what we did (Saturday), learn on the positives, maybe change a couple of things to make ourselves better and more capable (Sunday) night.”
Silver for St. Mary’s men’s hoops team
The St. Mary’s University Lightning men’s basketball team settled for silver after falling 94-79 to the host Keyano College Huskies in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championship final in Fort McMurray on Saturday night.
Brock Dewsbery led the Lightning with 27 points, while Caleb Jipp had 17. Dj Haynes scored 19 points for the Huskies.
In the bronze-medal game, the SAIT Trojans dropped a 71-58 decision to the Lakeland College Rustlers. Kuol Kuol led SAIT with 13 points, while Chance Samuel had 16 for Lakeland.
Women lose out on bronze in OT
The host St. Mary’s women’s basketball team lost its bronze-medal game 80-74 in overtime to Briercrest College at Glenmore Christian Academy on Saturday.
Jazmyn Kellogg led St. Mary’s with 24 points, while Andria Stitt added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Amber Fichtner had 15 points for Briercrest.
Lakeland defeated The King’s University Eagles 61-50 in the gold-medal game.
