Successful songwriter turned country-pop superstar Sam Hunt is at Rogers Place Sept. 21.

The Cedartown, Georgia-born songwriter penned singles for Reba McEntire, Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney before breaking out with Leave the Night On, which found him being the first country artist in 22 years (since Billy Ray Cyrus) to smash to the top of three country charts simultaneously.

A forward-looking genre-blender who pulls R&B into his pop country songs, other notable hits by the 39-year-old include Take Your Time and Make You Miss Me.

“I want to sound different than everybody else,” Hunt told Billboard, alluding to his college sports day days. “To use a football phrase, I try to zig when other people zag.”

His new EP Locked Up is out Friday.

Hunt’s North American, 20-city Locked Up Tour features Dalton Dover will be opening up on the Canadian dates, including playing the Saddledome the night before Edmonton in Calgary.

Doors for the Rogers Place show are at 6:30 p.m, show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.
