Cochrane RCMP shot and injured a suspect in a vehicle who tried to flee a traffic stop before crashing into a police car, Mounties said.
The events unfolded shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, RCMP said in a statement, as officers were attempting to arrest someone they had pulled over in a rural area near Cochrane.

“The suspect’s vehicle collided with a police vehicle, disabling the suspect’s vehicle in the process,” police said. “The suspect then exited his vehicle and a confrontation ensued, which resulted in an RCMP officer discharging their service weapon.”
No officers and bystanders were hurt, while the suspect sustained serious but non-life-threatening injured.
RCMP said it would co-operate with the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, the province’s independent police watchdog, which has been called in to investigate Tuesday’s events.
Mounties will also conduct their own investigation into the shooting, the national police agency said.
