Elias Lindholm was a scratch from Monday night’s 3-2 Vancouver Canucks loss against the Los Angeles Kings.

That came after he’d been absent from practices in previous days, an acknowledgment by head coach Rick Tocchet that Lindholm was managing his way through an undisclosed injury and then a report by Sportsnet that Lindholm was to meet with a specialist about the apparent on-going issue.

Lindholm was once again absent from practice on Wednesday and now Arshdeep Bains has been called up from the AHL.

But Tocchet put on positive face after practice.

“I’m not really concerned. I think it’s just it’s something a little nagging, that’s getting better every day. That’s the way you got to look at it,” he said.

There’s no timeline on how long his recovery might take, nor is concerned the injury might prove to be more challenging than the team’s medical staff currently thinks.

“I mean, not to the best of my knowledge. I would say no,” Tocchet said.

His boss, general manager Patrik Allvin, also isn’t concerned.

“He’s good,” the GM told Postmedia with a smile, near the end of Wednesday’s practice at the University of B.C.

But his absence does fell notable because of the Bains move.

A call-up at this time of the season is notable: teams are only allowed four recalls between the trade deadline and the end of the regular season, so any use of them carries extra import. You don’t just call a player up to have a look at him for a few days, you call a player up because you intend to use them somewhat.

That said, Tocchet didn’t think Bains would be here for the rest of the season.

“There’s still 10 games left,” he noted.
