Just days after suddenly changing course and choosing to negotiate a new contract now, rather than waiting for the end of the season, Elias Pettersson has signed an eight-year contract totalling US$92.8 million with the Vancouver Canucks.

The contract will reportedly average US$11.6 million per season. The overall structure of the contract includes US$47 million in signing bonuses.

According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, US$29 million of the deal comes in just the first two years alone, mostly through $22 million in signing bonuses. Those two seasons, notably, will be the last under the current collective bargaining agreement, which expires in September 2026.
