OK, Arturs Silovs, time to see what you have in you this year.

The Vancouver Canucks have recalled goalie Arturs Silovs from the AHL to help fill in for Thatcher Demko, who is believed to have suffered a knee injury during Saturday’s 5-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

TSN’s Farhan Lalji reported Monday that Demko is dealing with what seems to be a minor knee injury. Others, like CHEK-TV’s Rick Dhaliwal, reported that the Canucks’ No. 1 goalie will need only a few weeks to recover.

Fortunately for the Canucks, their schedule from now through the end of the season in April isn’t that busy, especially in the next few weeks.

The Canucks have just two games this week, and just eight games from now until the end of March.

And their opposition isn’t all that tough. They do host the powerful Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday, but then it’s a series of also-rans through the end of next week: Washington on Saturday, then Buffalo, Montreal and Calgary.

It’s likely Casey DeSmith will make most, if not all of those starts. Silovs made five starts for Vancouver last season and performed well. His season in Abbotsford this year, though, has been mixed, while fellow goalie prospect Nikita Tolopilo has mostly impressed.

The Canucks next face Los Angeles, Dallas and Anaheim over the last week of March.

HOW IT’S DONE — To make cap space for the Silovs recall, Dakota Joshua, who has been out injured for nearly a month since injuring his hand in a fight Feb. 13 versus Chicago, was moved to long-term injured reserve. Joshua became eligible for the designation last week, once he’d been out for 10 games. (You also have to be out for at least 24 days.)

Because Silovs is being called up due to Demko’s injury, the recall is under emergency conditions, which means the Canucks don’t have to use a regular recall. Teams get four regular recalls between the trade deadline and the end of the regular season; Vancouver has already used one, when Vasily Podkolzin was recalled on Saturday.
