Roughnecks 12, Rush 10

Round One of the Battle of the Prairies goes to Calgary.

The hometown Roughnecks defeated the Saskatchewan Rush 12-10 in National Lacrosse League action Friday night in the first game of a home-and-home series.

The same two teams battle again Saturday night but this time in Saskatoon at the SaskTel Centre.

With the loss Friday, Saskatchewan slips to 6-and-9 on the season and currently out of a playoff spot. Calgary improves its record to 7-8.

Saskatchewan has three games left on the regular-season schedule, all on home turf at SaskTel Centre.

The Rush will also host the San Diego Seals on Saturday, April 13 and the Toronto Rock on Saturday, April 20.

On Friday, Clark Walter and Ryan Keenan each scored twice for Saskatchewan, which trailed 4-0 after the opening period, 5-2 at half-time and 9-4 after three periods.

Patrick Dodds, Mike Messenger, Robert Church, Nathaniel Kozevnikov, Mike Triolo and Holden Garlent added one goal apiece for the Rush squad, which out-shot Calgary 62-41.

Church and Triolo each had three assists for a four-point night.

Christian Del Bianco made 52 saves for the win in the Calgary net.

Frank Scigliano had 29 stops for Saskatchewan.

Haiden Dickson had a hat-trick and assist for the Roughnecks, who got a goal and seven assists from Tanner Cook for an eight-point game. Jesse King had two goals and four assists, while Tyler Pace added two goals and three assists.
