Police have identified the suspect in a recent sexual assault that occurred at a southwest Calgary bus stop.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. on March 10, when a woman waiting at a bus stop along 37th Street between 26th Avenue and 28th Avenue S.W. was approached by an unknown man.

Armed with a crowbar, the male assailant demanded the woman follow him behind a nearby business, where he physically and sexually assaulted the woman, according to police.

The incident was interrupted by a nearby neighbour who heard the victim’s call for help. The Good Samaritan then called police after the suspect fled the scene on foot.

The victim was taken to hospital.

On Monday, CPS said investigators have identified 47-year-old Calgarian James Francis Pritchard as the suspect. According to a police news release, Pritchard is wanted on warrants for sexual assault with a weapon.

Pritchard is described as standing approximately 5’11”, weighing 190 pounds, with a slim build, short grey hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a light-coloured jacket with dark sleeves, light-blue jeans, white shoes and was reportedly carrying a dark-coloured backpack.
