So the City of Calgary has decided to fine a homeowner up to $150 if they shovel snow from their driveway onto the street. Who will be fining the city or its employees for plowing snow that has fallen on the street into a homeowner’s driveway?

More often than not, this either happens after the homeowner has already shovelled their driveway or becomes added snow when they get home. Either way, the snow gets packed down and very hard to shovel.

Other cities (Winnipeg, for example) follow their snow plows with a front-end loader, which scrapes the windrow off the driveway onto the front grass or boulevard. Seems to me just another civic snow job.

Fort Calgary rebrand fails

Re: Fort Calgary rebrand doesn’t expand our story, Opinion, May 30

The Confluence? Really? The letter writer is right on about the rebranding of Fort Calgary.

The new name in no way compels me to take visitors or my grandchildren to the site to showcase the birthplace of our city and the significance of this Indigenous meeting place. The new name requires explanation — not something that a successful brand should need.

As a former Winnipegger, it seems like a failed attempt to copy The Forks (Nestawaya in Cree), where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet.

Winnipeggers get that. Let’s stop cancel culture in the name of inclusiveness unless the history is truly evil and offensive.

NDP must be transparent on plans

The Alberta NDP has previously formed government Alberta. I think it is important for media to ask the current slate of NDP Alberta leadership candidates to answer one of the most important questions of the campaign: “As leader of the NDP, will you support any of the principles in the 2015 Leap Manifesto document, yes or no?”

ID to vote a reasonable rule

Bill 20 contains a requirement that ID is required to vote. Why is this an issue? Apparently, not all citizens have up-to-date ID showing that they are citizens.

How hard is it to get up-to-date ID since election dates are known well in advance? They use the scare tactic from the U.S. that voter ID is racist or discriminatory.

You want to vote? Show ID. Very simple.
