His goal gives him 44 career MLS goals, breaking his tie with former Whitecap Camilo.
White had said he’d celebrate with a group hug, and he did — albeit a subdued one, as the goal came in the early stages of a very competitive game with the Eastern Conference’s second-place team.
The play started with Pedro Vite feeding an onrushing Ryan Raposo in the box. The wingback laced a low, fast cross across the box, where White redirected it into the back of the net with a deft back heel between the legs.
It gave the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, and was the first shot of the game.

The New Jersey product had more than 50 friends and family in attendance at the game, one of the rare occasions he got to play in front of them. He played in the Red Bulls, first during the summers for their Premier Development Team while at Duke University, then for their USL team after being taken 16th in the 2018 SuperDraft.
He broke through to the first team and showed great promise in the Red Bulls system, but found himself benched during Gerhard Struber’s tenure, leading to a trade to the Whitecaps in 2021. He’s since played himself into form as the highest-scoring American striker in MLS, and challenged for the Golden Boot last year with 15 regular season goals.
White is under contract until the end of 2025, with a club option for 2026.
