Despite outshooting the Edmonton Oil Kings 33-16 in regulation time, the Saskatoon Blades found themselves tied with the visiting team 1-1 after 60 minutes of Western Hockey League action Saturday night.
But it only took one shot — a penalty shot — in overtime to seal the 2-1 victory for the Blades.

At 42 seconds into the extra period, Brandon Lisowsky was on a breakaway when he got slashed, leading to the penalty shot in which he beat Oil Kings goaltender Kolby Hay blocker side to net the game winner.

Before that the two teams were scoreless until the third period, when Saskatoon’s Easton Armstrong scored at 6:22 to take the 1-0 lead, but was followed at 18:23 by Edmonton’s Gracyn Sawchyn to tie the game and force overtime.
Evan Gardner stopped 16 of 17 shots on goal for the Blades, while Hay — who had stopped the previous three penalty shots he faced this season until Lisowksy’s attempt — made 32 saves on 34 shots.
Before the game, the Blades retired the jersey of all-time scoring great Frank Banham during a banner-raising ceremony at SaskTel Centre.
This was the second home game in as many night for the Blades, who defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday 3-1.
Tanner Molendyk, Egor Sidorov and Fraser Minten, with an empty-net goal, each scored once for Saskatoon, which led 1-0 and 2-0 by periods.
Austin Elliott stopped 23 of 24 shots in the Saskatoon net as the Blades outshot the Tigers 28-24.
Zach Zahara, who was pulled twice for an extra attacker late in the third period for nearly three minutes overall, had 25 saves for Medicine Hat.
That game marked a milestone for Blades captain Trevor Wong, who earned his 250th career WHL point.
