The travellers were sent to secondary inspection and their vehicle was searched.

A firearm, pepper spray and stun gun were found inside the vehicle.

An additional US$11,815 in cash was also discovered.

The pair of travellers paid fines and were then sent back to the United States.

That follows a seizure April 19 at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel.

Officers found 26.5 grams of cocaine and 14.5 grams of psilocybin after a vehicle was searched at secondary inspection.

One individual was fined and returned to the United States.

Border officials are also warning travellers to Detroit to plan ahead and expect delays as Detroit hosts the NFL Draft through the weekend.

Heavy border traffic is expected.
