A 65-year-old man is dead after the boat he was operating struck a metal tide pole in the Derby Reach area of Langley on Saturday.
At around 5:00 p.m., Langley RCMP received calls of a man in distress on a boat on the Fraser River near the 21400 block of Allard Crescent.

Life-saving attempts were made by police and paramedics at the scene, but the man died of his injuries.
