Woman with knife arrested in New West school
A woman armed with a knife was arrested in a New Westminster high school early Wednesday morning after a concerned caller called 911.
Police were called at about 8 a.m. about a woman who was not a student at New Westminster Secondary School carrying a knife, causing students and staff to fear for their safety.

A security guard isolated the woman before police arrived, but officers decided to clear the school of all staff and students.
“Patrol officers engaged in de-escalation techniques with the armed woman, with the aim of having her safely taken into police custody,” said New Westminster Police Department Sgt. Andrew Leaver in a statement.
“After some time, the integrated emergency response team arrived and the woman eventually co-operated with police instructions.”
She was arrested and could face charges of mischief and threats.
Police “would like to acknowledge the swift response by school administration who called 911 without delay,” said Leaver. “Their co-operation played a key role in there being no injuries to students, the suspect or police.”
Sixth Street was closed between Royal Avenue and Agnes Street for several hours but has since reopened.
Investigators are collecting video and interviewing witnesses, any of whom can contact the victim assistance unit at 604-529-2525 or by email, vau@nwpolice.org.

Violent offender sought in Nanaimo
Police in Nanaimo are asking for help tracking down violent offender Jayson Delorme, 41, who is wanted for breaching release conditions.
Delorme has a history of skipping court dates and should be considered violent, said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien.
“Delorme was recently released from prison with specific conditions related to domestic violence,” said O’Brien. “It is alleged that he breached a number of the conditions relating to his release order.”
Police think Delorme is travelling between Nanaimo, Port Alberni and Duncan.
He is five-foot-nine, 200 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. He has a “Kayden” tattoo on his left wrist, one on his back of a crown and three piercings in his left ear.
Anyone with information on Delorme’s whereabouts is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
