The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after Edmonton police shot an assault suspect on Sunday, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
At 4:40 a.m., police responded to a home near 109 Avenue and 93 Street after reports of a 33-year-old man assaulting another man, officers said in a release, Sunday.
When police arrived, the suspect ran away carrying a weapon, and a “confrontation occurred between the suspect and police,” ASIRT said. The male suspect was struck and sustained life-threatening injuries.
He was treated on scene and taken to hospital, where he’s currently in stable condition, police said.
A gunshot struck a neighbouring residence during the incident, but no one inside the home was injured. No police officers or civilians were injured.
