North Vancouver RCMP are urging park users to be vigilant after multiple acts of vandalism at Princess Park in the District North Vancouver.

Park Rangers have reported that several signs and posts have been stolen and that the holes have been back filled. In some cases, they were removed and thrown to the side and the fencing was knocked down.

The signs ask park users to stay on the trail and that dogs must be leashed.

RCMP say the money to replace the posts could have been spent on park maintenance or upgrades.

“It is really disappointing to see such senseless acts of theft and vandalism in Princess Park,” said Steffanie Warriner, director of parks for the District of North Vancouver in a statement.

She said the news signs and fencing were installed to protect the work of 60 community volunteers, who planted 1,000 native plants last year to help improve forest health in this area.

“Not only is it costly to continue to replace these signs and fencing, but these acts of vandalism disrespect the time and care that has been invested into restoring this sensitive area and put the good work of the community and staff in jeopardy,” she said.

North Vancouver media spokesperson Const. Mansoor Sahak says those responsible could be charged with mischief, a criminal offence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
