A man in his 50s died Friday after a tree fell on him in a maple grove in Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, in the Quebec City region.

Emergency services were contacted at around 10 p.m. on Friday regarding a man who had not returned from work as usual.

Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec then began searching in a wooded area of ​​Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, near rue Jacques-Cartier Nord, in a maple grove.

A SQ dog handler was called in to assist in the search. Police finally found the victim during the night and his death was pronounced at the scene.

“Everything seems to indicate the man was working on site at the maple grove to fell trees, when he died after a tree fell on top him,” said Stéphane Tremblay, a spokesperson for the SQ. “Everything indicates it was an accidental death.”

An investigation is underway in collaboration with the Coroner’s Office.
