Where is it shot?
In and around Vancouver. But mostly at Bridge Studios in Burnaby. Surrey City Hall stands in for the exterior of St. Bonaventure Hospital.

Did you know?

The Good Doctor is based on a Korean TV show called Good Doctor that ran for 20 episodes in 2013.

Why was everyone talking about The Good Doctor this week?

Episode five (April 2) titled Who At Peace was touted as a “must-see” hour with a “heart-stopping” moment. And it was as Noah Galvin‘s Dr. Asher Wolke was beaten to death in an antisemitic attack, while his boyfriend Jerome (Giacomo Baessato) was at a nearby restaurant ready to propose to him as a surprise on their second anniversary. As for next week (April 9), episode six is titled M.C.E. and is teased with “the team must deal with a mass casualty event that forces them to put aside their emotions following a recent tragedy.”

Why is The Good Doctor ending?

Despite strong season six ratings, ABC cancelled the show. And this shortened, 10-episode run — they originally planned for 13 — will be its last. During the Television Critics Association press tour in early February, showrunner David Shore said the decision to end the show was partly ABC’s and partly the show’s executive team. He also said that, while a shortened season isn’t ideal, he and others on the show are happy that they know how things are going to end for Dr. Murphy and the gang.

“This has been a weird year. Only doing 10 episodes is unfortunate. But being able to go out on your own terms is a blessing,” Shore was quoted in a Deadline story.

“I know that for the rest of my life I am going to have situations where I go, ‘Damn, I wish I had Dr. Murphy to write for right now,’” said Shore. “There is something about that moment I would want to share with people. I love that character. You want to throw him into any situation and see what he has to say about the rest of us.”

What does the star say?

“Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life. I will always be grateful to David (shore), Liz (Friedman), and Erin (Gunn) as well as the hugely talented — and lovely — cast, writers, and crew who made this show possible,” said Highmore in a statement in January. “Caring deeply is what got us here. Thank you to Sony and ABC, and to everyone who has watched along at home. With love from Vancouver … tequila, stat!”
