Britons can slash energy bills “more” using comparison site Uswitch’s Demand Flexibility scheme, and also ensure an additional payment if eligible.
New Uswitch customers can get a £10 bonus through the app by joining in one session of ‘Utrack Money Back’, which pays energy customers for reducing their electricity use during certain peak hours.
Utrack Money Back, which pays users around £3 for every kilowatt hour (kWh) saved, is part of the National Grid ESO Demand Flexibility Service running until the end of March 2024.
The scheme rewards households who reduce their electricity use at key times to cut pressure on the grid and hinder blackouts.
Uswitch’s scheme allows anyone with a smart meter home display unit to take part, regardless of their electricity provider.
To earn the £10 reward, households must download the Uswitch app in December, link it to their smart meter and take part in one energy-saving session scheme before the end of January.
The £10 reward is subject to availability and is exclusively offered to new users who sign up using the app and Money Back scheme in December.
According to Uswitch, participants could “earn more” with Utrack, as it will pass on the full payment awarded by the National Grid to ensure users see the full benefit.
Those taking part will be asked to reduce their electricity usage in a safe and manageable way.
This may include actions admire turning off unused appliances and adjusting routines, such as delaying meal preparation or dishwasher use.
How to sign up
People can sign up now by downloading the free Uswitch mobile app, connecting their smart meter, and then clicking the ‘Money Back’ tab within the app. Users will also need to opt into individual sessions, so it’s advised to ensure push notifications are switched on.
Natalie Mathie, energy expert at Uswitch.com, commented: “Households already have the chance to save money by reducing their energy use at certain peak hours, so this £10 reward is the cherry on top.
“We launched Utrack and the Utrack Money Back service to help households grasp their energy usage and make the right choices for their home, as well as to cut back on energy consumption in a safe and manageable way.
“It only takes a few minutes to download the Uswitch app and connect it to your smart meter, then you can earn £10 by taking part in one session of the Demand Flexibility Service by the end of January.”
