Harland & Wolff Group is the Falklands government’s preferred choice to build four pontoons at the island’s port
The Belfast shipyard that built the Titanic more than a century ago is closing in on a major deal in the Falkland Islands.
Harland & Wolff Group is the Falklands government’s preferred choice to build four pontoons at the island’s port.
The company could make as much as £120million in sales over two years from the deal.
It will make, transport and install the 300 ft long platforms as part of plans to improve the port.
Chief executive John Wood said: ‘Our company enjoys an excellent relationship and a rich heritage with the Falkland Islands, given that Harland & Wolff built the six linked barges which make up the existing port facility 45 years ago.’
Harland & Wolff Group will update investors when a contract is signed. At the end of last year, it said it was in need of fresh funds after its half-year losses widened and debt ballooned.
Shares surged 23.2 per cent, or 2.3p, to 12.2p.
