Bumper deal: Tesco boss Ken Murphy
The chief executive of Tesco is in line for a record-breaking £10m pay day this year.
In the largest amount ever awarded to a British supermarket boss, Ken Murphy will take home a salary of £1.4m and performance-linked bonuses of £8.6m.
It comes after the price of groceries soared. Tesco faced a backlash after announcing it made £2.3billion in the year to February.
Murphy, 57, will be paid more than double last year’s £4.44m.
Part of his bonus will be in shares and is linked to its 2021 financial performance, the Sunday Times reported.
Andrew Speke, of the High Pay Centre, said: ‘[He would be] among the highest paid CEOs in the FTSE 100.
‘It’s hard to imagine this would go down well with many of Tesco’s workers and customers.’
