Once British-owned MG launched its new second-generation MG3 hatchback with the firm’s first full hybrid powertrain.
Sprinting from rest to 62 mph in eight seconds, accelerating to motorway speeds — from 50-75 mph — takes five seconds.
MG reckons it will deliver up to 64 mpg with CO2 emissions of 100g/km — and fill the vacuum left by Ford when it ended Fiesta production.
Expect prices from £18,000 for the hybrid and £16,000 for the pure petrol version with a manual gearbox.
