It is often convenient to read the FT newspaper back to front.
As such, the powerful positive effect left from reading your columnist Gillian Tett’s piece — which was entitled “Reasons to be optimistic in 2024” (Opinion, January 12) — could not be squelched by the sight of a graphic in Hannah Murphy’s Big Read “The rising AI threat to democracy”, illustrating the global risks perception survey from the World Economic Forum in Davos, and published two pages earlier in the same edition (The Big Read, January 12).
One cannot help but wonder if the juxtaposition of these items resulted from skilled editorial judgment or mere happenstance.
Either way I’ll vote for Tett’s offerings any day. Let’s hope the World Economic Forum in Davos presents more balanced questions to its participants in future.
