I enjoyed the article “Sunak saddled with ‘R’ word ahead of election battle” (Report, February 16), however I do not believe an anticipated or historical technical recession lies on the shoulders of any one leader. It is equally reductionist and unfair to call it “Rishi’s recession” as Labour does, as recessions are like valleys — it is a necessary part of the lows and highs of any economy. As Irish, we are close neighbours of Britain and rely heavily on the success of the British economy overcoming its current economic problems. So I wish Rishi the best.
