The DWP has sent out a TV licence alert as the fee is set to go up. Lots of people might get a free TV licence, before the price goes up next month.
On April 1, the TV licence will go from £159 to £169.50, but some folks may not have to pay.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is reminding everyone to check if they have to pay.
On a site like Twitter, the DWP posted: “#PensionCredit could give access to extra support, including help with energy costs and a free TV Licence for over 75s”.
Right now, about 850,000 people in the UK could get Pension Credit but haven’t asked for it yet. This benefit can give you about £75 every week and helps you save money in other ways too, reports Wales Online.
For people over 75, they can get a free TV licence and other benefits including:
- Housing Benefit if you rent the property you live in
- Support for Mortgage Interest if you own the property you live in
- Council Tax discount
- Help with NHS dental treatment, glasses and transport costs for hospital appointments
- Help with your heating costs through the Warm Home Discount Scheme
- A discount on the Royal Mail redirection service if you are moving house
