Banx’s cartoon (January 30) amusingly refers to the news that a climate change protester had thrown soup at the “Mona Lisa”, which was also covered in Robert Shrimsley’s FT Magazine column “The next big cultural push? Embracing ‘artivism’” (February 3).

Given advances in drone and quadcopter technology, climate protesters should soon be able to drop soup on oil refineries too. But there is no logical reason for protesters to attack works by Leonardo da Vinci. He is not in any way responsible for climate change. Aircraft are one of the most carbon intensive ways to travel. Da Vinci’s proposed flying machines were human powered.

If his designs had caught on, air travel would have been far more environmentally friendly.

Not only that, but there would have been less need for gym memberships.
