The Belarusian Defence Ministry has confirmed that they are building a new “military base” in the Gomel region some 25 miles from the Ukrainian border.
The base is currently to be used for defensive measures, but if the political unification of Belarus and Russia happens, then this will be used for an “attack.”
This signal a shift in the military infrastructure for Belarus and has raised a lot of questions and speculation, the mew military base will be complete by March.

Radio Liberty has reported that the building of the new camp aligns with Alexandar Lukashenko’s pledge in May 2022 where he announced there will be a new “Southern Operational Command” of his forces.
Ukrainian military expert Oleh Zhdanov told Radio Liberty, “In my opinion, Belarus still has a defensive military doctrine, unlike the Russian one.
“But if the political unification of Belarus and Russia takes place, then the doctrine will change to an offensive one. Then it will be a military base for attack.”
He added that Lukashenko could build more military facilities along the Ukrainian border in the future.
A former Belarusian officer who was cited by Radio Liberty said that the new military base could be an advanced camp for any future attack in Ukraine that will be used by Russia to capture Chernihiv, this would then be used for further offenses against Ukraine.
