Samsung sells a lot of different PC monitors, but its Odyssey range might be the most innovative. Samsung pushed the envelope even further last year, when it released the Odyssey Ark monitor — a curved monitor with a 1000R curvature that could be set on either a horizontal or vertical orientation, depending on your needs. Now, the company has just released a second-gen model.
Samsung has just announced the second-gen model of the Odyssey Ark, and if you liked that last model, you’re certainly going to like this one. The display is still 55 inches, it still has the same exact 1000R curvature, the same exact 4K resolution, and it rotates to your heart’s content.
So what is different, then? For one, the monitor now has a total of four source inputs and supports KVM switching, including three HDMI ports and one DisplayPort, letting you control multiple computers, laptops, or consoles from the same monitor. KVM switching is an important addition for desks with multiple PCs, so you don’t need to physically unplug cables from one device to the next. For example, you could have a Mac and a gaming PC at the same desk and switch between them with the press of a button. It can also be a great solution if you have a desktop computer and a dock for a laptop in the same spot.
Besides the updated inputs and KVM support, this is the same Ark monitor you’ve come to know and love, with a 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. There is an option to change screen sizes and aspect ratios from 55 to 27 inches and 16:9 to 21:9 and 32:9, while the Ark Dial is still as useful as ever, with the ability to tweak your monitor’s settings.
In more exciting news, however, this monitor is actually cheaper than its predecessor. Whereas the original Odyssey Ark launched at $3,499.99, the new version was lowered in price and is now $2,999.99. It’s still very expensive, especially for a monitor, but it’s slightly more attainable. It’s now available for purchase.
