There were seven games on the Blue Jays’ minor league schedule on Tuesday.

Thankfully, the affiliates had a winning afternoon, going 4-3 including one team throwing a no hitter. Four of the games finished in a one run game and there were quite a few home runs on Tuesday.

Let’s take a look at the latest Minor League Report!

Buffalo fell in a high scoring game

There was a ton of offence for the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday, however, they fell 11-10 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to move their season record to 35-35.

Top power hitting prospect in the Jays’ organization Orelvis Martinez was called up on Tuesday, leaving a power void in Triple-A, right? Wrong, as Max McDowell hit two home runs, Riley Tirotta hit his fourth home run with the Bisons, Will Robertson hit his eighth with the team, and Cam Eden hit his fifth.

McDowell had a four-hit performance, as did Leo Jimenez, who had two doubles and two singles. Eden also had a multi-hit performance, while Steward Berorra and Rafael Lantigua each had a single.

Pitching didn’t have a great day. Well, starter Mike Mayers did, striking out three in two clean innings. Troy Watson gave up four runs, two earned, in two innings and a third. Paxton Schultz was tagged with the loss and blown save, giving up five earned runs in an inning and a third, with Hayden Juenger finishing the inning for him with a strikeout in a third of an inning.

Erik Swanson’s struggles continued, as he gave up two earned runs and a walk in an inning pitched. He also gave up his eighth home run in just 8.2 innings pitched for Buffalo. Connor Cooke finished the game with two walks and a strikeout in an inning pitched.

New Hampshire edge out Reading

Like the Bisons game, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats hit numerous homers. The only difference is that the Fisher Cats won this game, defeating the Reading Fightin Phils 6-5.

Garrett Spain hit his ninth home run of the season and had a three-hit performance, as did Ryan McCarty, who hit his third home run at the level with two additional singles. Gabriel Martinez also hit a home run, his fifth of the year.

Kekai Rios had the team’s other extra-base hit, his third double of the season, while Rainer Nuñez also had a multi-hit game. Josh Kaseivch and Alex De Jesus each had a single as well.

Devereaux Harrison made the start for the Fisher Cats, striking out six over five innings while giving up three earned runs. Braydon Fisher made his organization debut, striking out two in an inning of work. Hunter Gregory picked up a hold in his inning and two thirds, giving up two earned runs with a strikeout. Ryan Boyer picked up the save, striking out a batter in his inning and a third.

Vancouver won both doubleheader games with a shutout

The Vancouver Canadians played two games in a seven-inning double header, winning both via a shutout. The first game was a 1-0 no-hitter, so let’s start with that one.

I think this is the first time I’ve done a Minor League Report where there was only one pitcher used for a team. Lazaro Estrada threw a seven-inning no-hitter, finishing with a line of 7 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K to bring his season ERA in High-A to 2.15. If you want a further in-depth look at this no-hitter, take a look at Evan Stack’s article here.

The Canadians didn’t have much in the way of their own hits either. Jamari Baylor scored the only run, reaching base with a single, while Nick Goodwin drove him in with a single. Peyton Williams, Je’Von Ward, and Dylan Rock each had a single as well.

Game two ended in a shutout, but this one was a lot less competitive as the Canadians scored seven runs in the first two innings en route to a 7-0 win.

There wasn’t a no-hitter this time, as Carson Pierce finished with a line of 3.1 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K to bring his season ERA in Vancouver to 4.22. Grayson Thurman finished with a win, striking out two in a clean inning and two thirds. Naswell Paulino pitched a clean inning with two strikeouts, while Chay Yeager struck out a batter in his inning of work.

Unlike the first game, the Canadians had extra-base hits in the game. Jace Bohrofen, Peyton Williams, and Dylan Rock each had a double, with the latter having a multi-hit game. Nick Goodwin and Jackson Hornung each had two singles, while Jamari Baylor also hit a single in this game.

Dunedin lost to fall to .500

With a 6-2 loss to the Daytona Tortugas on Tuesday, the Dunedin Blue Jays record fell to 32-32.

The rehabbing Cade Doughty hit a home run, his first of the season at any level. Fellow 2022 compensation pick Tucker Toman hit the team’s only other extra-base hit, his ninth double of the season. Victor Arias and Cristian Feliz each had a single.

Jorge Bautista made the start for the D-Jays, picking five innings and giving up six runs, only three of which were earned. Juanmi Vasquez was the first out of the bullpen with two strikeouts in two innings, while Jordan Powell struck out a batter and walked two in two innings.

FCL Jays hold on to win

On Tuesday, the Florida Complex League Blue Jays defeated the FCL Tigers 8-7, with the away team scoring two runs in the final inning to make it a close game. Overall, the FCL Jays record sits at 8-23… not great.

Braden Barry was selected in the 2023 draft and was the standout in the game. He had one of two doubles in this game, as well as a three-hit performance. Faruk De La Crus had the other extra-base hit, a bases clearing double. Kendry Chrinios had a two-hit performance, while Enmaneul Bonilla, Sam Shaw, and Carlos Vasquez each had a single.

Ryan Watson made the start for the FCL Jays, finishing with a line of 4 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 7 K with a home run given up. Raudy Gomez picked up the win while giving up two earned runs and two strikeouts in two innings and two thirds. Luis Torres picked up the save, pitching a third of an inning.

DSL Jays lost 6-4

The Dominican Summer League Blue Jays fell 6-4 to the DSL Giants Orange, bringing their season record to 5-5, fourth in their division.

This was Yorman Licourt’s best game in the Jays organization, had he finished the game with three singles. Dariel Ramon and Rafael Flores each had two-single performances, while Juarlin Soto and Aldo Gaxiola had the other two singles from this game. Randy Soto walked twice.

Silvano Hechavarría made his second start with the DSL Jays, finishing with a much better line of 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K to bring his season ERA to 6.43. Johandi Medina gave up two earned runs and struck out two in an inning and two thirds. Edgar Gallegos was tagged with the loss and the blown save, giving up three earned runs and three strikeouts in an inning and a third. Josue Loreto pitched two innings, allowing a hit and striking out a batter.
