I just returned from visiting my grandsons in Vernon, one is in secondary school, the other two in the final years of elementary. I was disappointed and shocked that D-Day hadn’t been mentioned at their schools in any way shape or form.

When we returned home to Langley, I found only one of my three grandchildren here had been exposed to this important information.

“Lest We Forget” shouldn’t be just for Nov. 11, but remembered at all important dates.

I think this is a perfect time in a child’s life to remind them of what their forefathers fought and often died for “lest they forget.”

Retired firefighter would never live in wooden highrise

As a retired firefighter I can say that entering and fighting a fire in a highrise building constructed with concrete or steel is a terrifying and extremely hazardous activity.

To enter a burning highrise constructed completely with wood would be even more dangerous. If the reason for wood construction is a lesser carbon footprint, that lesser footprint will soon be erased if the building is fully involved in flame.

I wouldn’t live in a wooden highrise.

I’m nervous enough above the fifth floor in any building. Always know where the fire escape is, and carry your own smoke alarm when travelling.

Repair Kitsilano pool by bringing in pros

Surely one of the major FRP engineering or vessel manufacturers could design/engineer a suitable FRP (fibre reinforced polyester) liner, including supervised installation and a quality inspection plan.

This would likely need several FRP layers with wide overlaps upon a pre-prepared suitable surface profile. Can be pigmented any colour and would include UV protection. Areas being worked on would likely require tenting-in. Lining procedures would include engineering all inlet, outlet and internal joints, including necessary resin cure quality control checks.

I recommend we should engineer and reline the Kits pool using a company that carries out high-grade FRP work for chemical plants and pulp mills.
