Police have charged an Edmonton man after he allegedly broke into the Zebra Child & Youth Advocacy Centre last year and set toys on fire, officers said Monday.

On Oct. 24, 2023, at around 4 a.m., a man threw a rock through the glass doors of the WSP Building — located at 10909 Jasper Ave. — entered the lobby and took the stairs to a 13th-floor storage area, police said.

He set fire to the Zebra Centre’s boxes of stuffed animals and left, officers said, noting there were “numerous people” inside the building at the time.

Due to the fire, the building “sustained significant damages,” police said.

Police said they charged Edmontonian Adam Christopher Neapetung, 38, with breaking and entering, arson with disregard for human life and breach of probation.

Officers said Neapetung was already in custody on other charges and now faces three additional charges in the Zebra Centre arson.
