beer truck

Every Thursday, we feature an image from the StarPhoenix archives, curated by the City of Saskatoon Archives. Today, we see a beer truck on the highway between Maymont and Ruddell after a rollover, from June 13, 1959. Not a single bottle broke in the incident. From the StarPhoenix archives:

Flagged down by an RCMP officer on the highway between Ruddell and Maymont Tuesday afternoon, Theodore Vossen, 630 Avenue I, south, driving a heavy tractor transport, lost control of his vehicle on the wet highway and ended up in the ditch. The van, loaded with beer, flipped completely over, landing on its roof, although the tractor unit remained upright. Vossen was uninjured and nary a bottle of his load was cracked. RCMP remained at the scene while the beer was transferred to another lorry, just to make sure no passersby stopped to hold an impromptu party.
