Québec solidaire MNA Ruba Ghazal announced on Wednesday she will seek to become her party’s co-spokesperson in the wake of the abrupt announcement last April by incumbent Émilise Lessard-Therrien that she was resigning.

Ghazal met with reporters at La Fontaine Park in Montreal to announce the news.

Last November, Ghazal lost the co-spokesperson’s job to Lessard-Therrien in a vote that saw her defeated by a margin of 0.6 per cent.

Lessard-Therrien’s resignation, accompanied by an accusation she was undermined by a “small team of professionals tightly woven around” male party co-spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, hit the party like a bombshell and forced a debate on whether it was time for Québec solidaire to be run like a party that intended to govern or remain on the opposition benches.
