Lethbridge police responded to three separate stabbing incidents over the weekend.

On Saturday morning, at about 4 a.m., a male with stab injuries was taken by friends to the emergency room of Lethbridge’s Chinook Regional Hospital.

Police believe the male was assaulted outside Club Lime, along the 1200 block of 1 Avenue S. A group of people were reportedly seen running from the area.

The victim has been released from hospital.

Lethbridge police, who continue to investigate, are asking anyone in the area of the 1200 block of 1 Avenue S. between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on June 8 to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-328-4444 and reference file 24010788.

Police responded to the second stabbing early Sunday morning, at about 12:40 a.m., after Chinook Regional Hospital staff reported that a male attended the emergency room with stab wounds. The male was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Two 17-year-old males were riding scooters in downtown Lethbridge when confronted by a group of people at the intersection of 7 Street and 1 Avenue S. The situation escalated from a verbal to a physical confrontation, and one 17-year-old male was stabbed by an unknown male from that group.

The victim and his friend drove to the hospital while the group left the area on foot, walking towards downtown park Galt Gardens.

The victim and subjects are not known to one another, said police.

And just before noon Sunday, a male was injured in front of a business along the 1100 block of Lethbridge’s Mayor Magrath Drive S. Officers found a male with life-threatening injuries, who was first taken to Chinook Regional Hospital before being taken by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital in critical but stable condition. He remains in hospital, police said Monday afternoon.

The victim got into an altercation with another male in an alley behind the business and was stabbed “multiple times,” said police. Witnesses gave a description of the alleged assailant to police, who within minutes were able to find him along the 2800 block of Parkside Drive.

But police say the male refused to comply with police direction and resisted arrest.

“Police discharged two, less-lethal sock rounds and the male was subsequently taken into custody without further incident,” said Lethbridge police in a Monday news release.

Police seized a knife from the male following a search incidental to arrest.

The assault was not a random incident, as the two were “known to each other in passing” and had seen one another earlier in the day, said Lethbridge police.

Christopher David Smith, 34, has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. Following a bail hearing, Smith was remanded in custody and is set to have a court appearance Wednesday.
