HAMILTON — In the mayhem following Nick Taylor’s historic RBC Canadian Open win last year, another legendary moment was made when Adam Hadwin was flattened by a security guard while attempting to shower his pal with Champagne.

This week at Hamilton Golf Club, the golfer and guard came face to face again for a much more civil reunion.

Hadwin posted a photo to his social media account showing the pair posing for a photo with wide smiles, with the caption, “Water under the bridge!”

In the famous scene from last year at Oakdale, a hoodie-wearing Hadwin rushed onto the green without any credentials and was promptly folded with a text-book tackle by the burly security guard, who apparently didn’t have time to question why someone would be attacking the tournament winner with a bottle of bubbly.

In the photo posted on Friday, Hadwin was holding up his player credential in a nod to how this all began.

TSN’s Bob Weeks managed to secure an interview with the most famous security guard in golf, although the sackmaster wanted to stay anonymous.

“I saw it as if it was in slow motion, this guy coming towards Nick with a bottle and no credentials,” the guard told Weeks. “It was a soft takedown. His feet never left the ground.”

Soft tackle probably wouldn’t be how Hadwin remembers it, considering after the incident he told Postmedia that last time he was tackled was never.

In an interview with Weeks, Hadwin said that he was driving out of Hamilton Golf Club on Tuesday and spotted a security guard that looked familiar. After realizing who it was he rolled down the window and the pair had a chance to catch up.

As Hadwin said in his post, it’s all water under the bridge now.

At least it all happened home in Canada rather than, say, Louisville, or Hadwin might have had to tell his story from a jail cell.
