The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and Seattle-based nonprofit ArtsFund announced $10 million in funding Tuesday to benefit 811 arts and culture organizations across Washington state.
The grantees are being recognized as part of the Community Accelerator Grant, a program which began in 2023 with the same amount of funding directed toward 671 organizations.
Administered by ArtsFund and funded by the Allen Family Foundation, the unrestricted grants range from $2,500 to $25,000 — with an average award of $12,330 — to help organizations invest in their missions.
The grants were awarded to every eligible nonprofit organization that applied, with approximately 70% of grantees reporting annual budgets of less than $500,000. Organizations in 37 Washington counties, representing 99.8% of the state’s population, received funding. The program prioritizes organizations that center BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities, and those located in rural communities.
The top five disciplines represented in the grantee pool include music, cultural heritage, multidisciplinary, theatre, and visual arts.
“From the Olympics to the Palouse, every corner of our state is brimming with diverse and rich cultural activity, and we are incredibly heartened by the extensive reach and continued impact of this program,” said Lara Littlefield, executive director of partnerships and programs for the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.
The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation was founded in 1988 by the late Microsoft co-founder and his sister, Jody Allen, to invest in a number of areas, including arts and culture, science and technology, and research in all areas of bioscience.
