The Maple Leafs have officially taken a turn to toughness behind the bench.

Craig Berube, with 3,000 penalty minutes as a player and a no-nonsense reputation as an NHL coach in Philadelphia and St. Louis was announced as the 40th coach in franchise history late Friday.

Berube, who replaces Sheldon Keefe, will be introduced Tuesday morning.
The 58-year-old spent six seasons with the Blues, with a regular season record of 206-132-44, leading them to the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2019. Berube was named a finalist for the Jack Adams that season. Combined with two years in Philadelphia, his record is 281-190-72 for a winning percentage of .584.
He has also been an assistant and AHL head coach after a playing career with Philadelphia, Toronto (40 games), Calgary, Washington and the New York Islanders. In 1,054 regular season games, born in Calahoo, Alta., he totalled 159 points (61 goals, 98 assists) and 3,149 penalty minutes.
