Okotoks RCMP are investigating after a shooting in the southern Alberta town left one man with serious injuries.

The RCMP detachment was dispatched just after 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon to a possible shooting in the area of Sheep River Court, Okotoks on the western edge of the town.

Police found a 53-year-old male suffered from a gunshot wound and had been flown by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital. The man is in serious but stable condition, RCMP said.

He was in surgery as of Wednesday evening, said Lauren Mowbray, public information officer for Alberta RCMP.

Police have taken a 26-year-old male into custody. Charges are pending, police said.

Okotoks RCMP said the shooting was an isolated incident and there’s no further threat to the public. Police will continue to be in the area as they investigate, RCMP said.
