A motor vehicle collision Tuesday on the city’s near east side sent two children to hospital.

The collision happened around 4 p.m. in the 2300 block of Westcott Road., just south of Tecumseh Road East.

Police said two young children reportedly ran into the street to retrieve a basketball and were struck by a northbound vehicle.

The children — six- and nine-years-old — were taken to hospital with what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.

An 89-year-old female driver remained at the scene following the collision.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
