DeSmith is pinch hitting for an injured Thatcher Demko as Vancouver’s starting netminder, so it’s not surprising the league wanted to get in front of any issues with goalies in this series.

The incident occurred at 12:25 of the first period. McCarron was assessed a minor penalty for goaltender interference. J.T. Miller scored for Vancouver on the ensuing power play. DeSmith didn’t seem affected by the collision with McCarron, and wound up making 29 saves in a 2-1 Vancouver victory. They lead the series 2-1, with Game 4 tomorrow in Nashville.

“It’s a tough penalty, man. I was trying to go stick on puck. Obviously not trying to hit the goalie but that’s what ended up happening. It wasn’t like I lost my cool or anything,” McCarron told reporters in Nashville after the game. “It’s an unfortunate play. It stung them scoring on the power play. Got to shake it off.”

According to the press release, the money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
