Two thieves allegedly tried to steal thousands of litres of gasoline from a Brossard gas station overnight between Monday and Tuesday, but their plan was thwarted by police who arrived in time to prevent them from leaving the premises.
According to Longueuil police, the suspects poured the gas into large cans and placed them in a cube truck. Without specifying the exact quantity, police spoke of “thousands” of litres.

Around 2:15 a.m., however, police caught the thieves in the act. One of them, age 19, was arrested on the spot, while the other fled on foot and was still being sought on Tuesday morning.
The man who was arrested was placed in detention and will be interviewed by investigators from the Longueuil police force. He has no history with the force.
He could face a charge of theft of more than $5,000.
Police continued their operation to find the second suspect, whose age wasn’t specified, with the help of a dog handler from the Sûreté du Québec.
The truck containing the gasoline cans was recovered by police, who set up a security perimeter around the scene.
The gas station was open during the theft. It mainly serves trucks for business customers.
