The Vancouver Park Board will close the Aquatic Centre on Saturday because of a non-sanctioned 4/20 cannabis protest event that has planned at Sunset Beach.
Staff say they expect hundreds of people, including vendors, to attend the event, which does not have a permit from the city.

To ensure public safety, staff said they will also be closing the washrooms at Sunset Beach and the parking lots at at Sunset Beach, English Bay and the Vancouver Aquatic Centre.

They will also fence off certain areas of Sunset Beach to prevent ground and turf damage.
Park rangers, the Vancouver police and city protective services will be present at the event, the park board said.
Marijuana has been legal in Canada since Oct. 17, 2018, but advocates say the 4/20 event continues to be a protest because many people have been priced out of legalization.
